I was introduced to the concept of the pinwheel by my local butcher. Having bought quite a few, I thought I'd have a go at making one myself. Very simple with only 4 ingredients! Depending on how thick you cut them you can make about a dozen. You could vary the ingredients by adding black pudding or red onion .... it can be flexible to your tastes. Why not give it a go.
The Recipe Ingredients
500g minced pork
1 dessert apple (I used Golden Delicious) finely diced
3 fresh sage leaves, finely chopped
1 pack ready rolled puff pastry
salt & pepper to taste
Method
In a mixing bowl put the minced pork, sage and apple and mix together well. Add salt & pepper at this stage and mix again.
Roll out the pastry fully onto a floured worktop or board and then spread the mince mixture all over it, leaving a border. Brush this border with a drop of milk, so the pastry sticks and forms a seal.
Starting at the bottom, roll up the pastry like a swiss roll until you get the the top and lightly press along the edge to make sure it has stuck together. You should now have a long sausage shape.
Slice up the pastry into even sized pieces (approx 1.5" each)
At this point you can pop them in two's, or other configurations, into your freezer or cook the lot in one go if you have people coming round or if they are for a picnic, buffet etc.
Before cooking, glaze with milk or egg wash (whichever is your preference) and cook in a pre-heated oven Gas 4 for 20 -25mins until golden.
