From Steak Burger to Meatballs

Sometimes you have to try and think a bit differently about which ingredients could offer multiple menu choices to you. Tonight, for example, I looked in my fridge and saw a lonely steak burger and thought - "what else could I do with that". I trust my butcher, so I know that the steak burger is minced steak (as the name suggests) so I started to think of other uses for it and then it came to me..... break it up into meatballs! This is exactly what I did and boy was it good.

The Recipe Ingredients

1 fresh burger (made from good quality beef)

1/2 a small red onion

2 vine tomatoes (chopped)

1/3 red pepper (chopped)

sprinkle of garlic powder

Tagliatelle pasta

3tbsp single creme (or creme fraiche if you prefer)

pinch of chilli flakes

Finely chopped fresh parsley

salt & pepper

1tbsp olive oil

Method

Break up the burger into small pieces, roll them in your hand to shape into balls (probably 4 or 5 per burger)

Cook the pasta in boiling, salted water according to the packet instructions.

Whilst the pasta is cooking, heat the oil in a small, wok style frying pan and add the chopped red onion and pepper and fry till softened.

Add the chopped tomatoes and garlic powder and stir together then add the meatballs to the pan.

Leave for a few minutes until the meatballs have coloured then add the cream, chilli flakes, salt & pepper and gently simmer for a few mins. Remove from the heat and add the chopped parsley and stir.

Drain the pasta and place in the bottom of a pasta bowl. Top with the meatballs and sauce and decorate with a final sprinkle of chopped parsley. Add parmesan if you wish.

Serve with garlic bread or green vegetables.
